Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have lost their last five consecutive matches in IPL 2022. From the highs to the extreme lows, the Orange Army has witnessed everything this season. Currently, they stand at 8th position in the points table.

The form of captain Kane Williamson has been the biggest issue for Sunrisers Hyderabad in this IPL season. He hasn’t got any sort of momentum in his batting and has kept on playing dot balls in the powerplay.

His captaincy hasn’t been up to the mark in IPL 2022. Kane has made big tactical errors on the field. Famous Hindi commentator Aakash Chopra too criticised the captaincy of Williamson. In a post-match show with Star Sports, Aakash Chopra said:

Kane the captain, I think, that’s the scrutiny as well. Twice now, against the same unit. Jagadeesha Suchith bowled the last over at the Brabourne Stadium and here it’s Washington Sundar. I mean, how?”

“Kane Williamson is arguably one of the better cricketing brains on the planet, but has now goofed up twice, and that too against Andre Russell. That’s like sending a lamb to a slaughterhouse. What do you get? You get slaughtered, that’s it,” Aakash Chopra added.

We have trusted Kane with his quality – Tom Moody supports Williamson in his tough phase

Kane Williamson has scored just 208 runs in 12 innings at an average of 19 and a terrible strike rate of 92. This performance of Williamson has created a lot of pressure on his opening partner Abhishek Sharma. SRH would hope their captain to come back in form in the rest of the two matches.

However SRH head coach Tom Moody continued to back Williamson. Moody said, “We have trusted Kane with his quality, there’s no question of his world-class quality. So, that’s why we haven’t made that move because as we have seen throughout the tournament where the batting has been functioning really well.”
