On Day 3 of the second Test match being played between Sri Lanka and Australia, Kusal Mendis, the wicketkeeper of Sri Lanka, made a sensational catch to dismiss Steve Smith, Australia’s centurion. The Test, which takes place at Galle International Stadium, is part of two matches hosted by Sri Lanka and Australia.

It was the third ball of the 85th over on the first inning for Australia when Jayasuriya bowled a flighted off-stump delivery that dipped and turned away. But while Steve Smith was pressing forward to defend, the ball got the slight edge and went past him. Mendis took that sharp catch and brought an end to the innings of the captain of Australia.

Mendis’ catch, however, is one of the finest catches a wicketkeeper ever took behind the stumps, and it is something that has been a real asset for his side, the Sri Lankan team. The wicket is also going to be a significant breakthrough for Sri Lanka after it dismissed Steve, who had made a century so far, halting the flow of runs from the Australian batsmen.

The 35-year-old Australian batting colossus, Steve Smith, played a fabulous knock, scoring 131 runs in 254 balls, striking 10 boundaries and a six. His fabulous performance perished when he was dismissed by Prabath Jayasuriya; thus, Australia at 350-4 after 84.3 overs.

Smith has more enhanced his claim as one of the greatest batters of all time in Test cricket history. He has completed 10,271 runs in 116 Tests at an extraordinary average of 56.74, with 41 fifties and 36 centuries in his incomparable record that puts him joint fifth in the Test cricket history along with Joe Root and Rahul Dravid.

His ability to score runs against top-quality opposition has earned him a permanent place in the Australian batting line-up, besides his different opportunistic consistency. The rest of his record shall attest to his hard work, dedication, and spectacular skills as a batsman. As long as he plays at the top level, Smith will break more records and strengthen his position among the all-time marksmen in Test cricket.
