[WATCH] Marais Erasmus Forgets To Watch A Delivery In The 1st ODI Between England And South Africa

During the first ODI between South Africa and England, umpire Marais Erasmus was seen looking in the opposite direction while a delivery was bowled.

Jason Roy scored 113 for England, but his century was in vain as South Africa came back to win the first One-Day International on Friday. Roy scored 113 for England, and his opening stand of 146 off 118 balls with Dawid Malan (59) appeared to put the visitors on track for a comfortable win chasing 299.

Amongst the Proteas batter Rassie Van Dussen scored another century. His 111 runs consisted of six fours and a maximum until he was dismissed by Sam Curran. Along with Van Dussen, David Miller played a crucial knock of 53 runs to take the hosts to this score.

However, England went from 146-0 in 20 overs to 271 all out as South Africa’s fast bowlers turned the game around in Bloemfontein. South Africa’s Anrich Nortje claimed 4-62, Sisanda Magala 3-46, and Kagiso Rabada 2-46. However, during the run-chase, umpire Marais Erasmus (standing at short-leg) was seen looking in the opposite direction while Jason Roy was facing a delivery while batting on 97.

Here’s the video of the incident:

Jofra Archer who returned back to international cricket after being out due to injury for a long duration failed to make an impression as he conceded 81 runs in his full quota of overs and took only one wicket.

The only silver lining for England from this loss in the first ODI is the form of Jason Roy who was going through a prolonged lean patch of form.

This ODI series is crucial for the Proteas as they need to win the series if they want to directly qualify for the One-day World Cup this year that will be played in India later this year.
