Watch – Mohammed Siraj And Dean Elgar Engaged In On-Field Altercation

South African captain Dean Elgar frustrated the Indian bowlers with an unbeaten 96 in Johannesburg to chase down 240 and level the series 1-1. Temper flared at the Wanderers on day 4 as Indian bowlers were seen engaging in on-field altercations with the Proteas batters.

Among a couple of bursts out, Mohammed Siraj was seen engaging in a heated on-field exchange with Dean Elgar. The incident happened during the 65th over of the Proteas innings when Mohammed Siraj was been hit to boundaries at will by Elgar. He pulled him for a four to the leg side on the first ball of the over and then hit him through the off-side for a four.

Siraj then lost control a bit and bowled a short ball that went over the head of keeper Rishabh Pant for 5 wides. The South African batsman then lofted Mohammed Siraj over the slip cordon and as Elgar walked towards Temba Bavuma to touch gloves, Mohammed Siraj said something to the South African captain, who retorted back before the umpires intervened to part away the cricketers.

Chasing 240 for the win, Dean Elgar showed class and temperament to bat through to see the Proteas home despite some hostile bowling from the Indian bowlers. The southpaw was involved in sizeable partnerships with each and every batter as the home side levelled the three-match series.

Elgar was unbeaten on 96 and with good contributions from the top-order batters, who had failed until then, the hosts managed to chase down the record total.
