Team India levelled the three-match against South Africa with a win by seven wickets in the second ODI on Sunday, October 9 at the JSCA International Sports Complex in Ranchi.

Aidan Markram and Reeza Hendricks’ half-centuries powered the visitors to a total of 278 for a loss of 7 wickets in their 50 overs. Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan scored 113* and 93 respectively to chase down the target with 25 balls to spare.

Amongst the bowlers for India, Siraj was a standout taking three wickets and giving only 38 runs, which included one maiden over and helped in keeping the visitor’s total under 300.

Apart from his exceptional bowling performance, he made the headlines for his attempt to get David Miller run out at the non-strikers in the 48th over. Siraj missed an easy chance to get the dangerous Miller out.

Mohammed Siraj argues with umpire after a missed run out chance

Keshav Maharaj missed the second ball of the over while attempting a wild swing. Wicketkeeper Sanju Samson threw the ball to Mohammed Siraj while Miller was outside his crease, however, the Indian pacer failed to hit the wicket from the barest of distance.

The ball ultimately missed the stumps and traveled to the boundary for four runs. He was seen arguing with the umpire for a dead ball but given that the throw was intentional, therefore, the umpire’s decision for a boundary byes stood.

This incident showed that Mohammed Siraj had exceptional game awareness but he could have probably taken a second longer or taken a better aim at the stumps then definitely David Miller would have gone back to the dugout.

Although these extra runs didn’t cost the team their victory, such things should be kept in check because additional runs can sometimes be the difference between winning and losing.

India will face the Proteas in the third ODI in Delhi at the Arun Jaitley Stadium for the series decider on Tuesday, October 11.
