Team India pacer Mohammed Siraj was left puzzled during a net session ahead of the second Test against England after discovering his bat had broken. With the Indian lower-order struggling in the first Test at Headingley, bowlers like Siraj have been putting in extra batting practice to strengthen the tail.
During the early phase of preparations at Edgbaston, Siraj was seen working hard in the nets, facing throwdowns with focus and even ducking short balls confidently. However, during practice on Sunday, June 29, he noticed an issue with the shoulder of his bat and appeared confused.
After inspecting it closely and speaking to a few teammates, Siraj eventually broke into a smile while holding the damaged bat. You can watch the video here:

Mohammed Siraj is expected to play a key role with the ball as India look to level the series in the second Test. However, his contribution with the bat is also important, as India will need their lower order to put up some resistance and make England’s bowlers work harder to finish the innings.
In the first Test, Siraj remained unbeaten on 3 in the first innings but was dismissed for a first-ball duck by Josh Tongue in the second.
“It’s not that they weren’t applying themselves” – Gambhir on Siraj & Co’s Batting Struggles
Team India missed the chance to build on strong starts in both innings, as their lower-order collapsed each time, costing them valuable momentum. The lack of contribution from the tailenders impacted India’s position in the match on both occasions, allowing England to comfortably chase down the 371-run target on Day 5.
“First of all, I’ll tell you it’s not that they were not applying themselves. Sometimes people fail, and that’s okay. I know it is disappointing and more importantly, I think they are more disappointed than anyone. Because they knew that we had the opportunity. If we had got up to 570, 580 in the first innings, we could have dominated from there,” Gambhir said after the first Test (via News 18).
