This season of Indian Premier League has been the catches season. After Ravindra Jadeja-Faf du Plessis combination, Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni defied his age to take a stunning catch against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

Batting first, Rahul Tripathi, who was opening the innings for the first time in IPL 2020, immediately responded well with a 50+ score. But their in-form batsman Shubman Gill returned early followed by Nitish Rana. Reeling at 70 for two in 8.1 overs, Kolkata management pushed Sunil Narine in the middle.

After a couple of heaves, Sunil Narine also had to walk back courtesy a gun catch from Ravindra Jadeja and Faf du Plessis at the boundary. The brilliant piece of fielding charged the Chennai Super Kings outfit who removed the dangerous Eoin Morgan and Andre Russell quickly to put Kolkata Knight Riders under pressure.

MS Dhoni displays athleticism; takes a stunning catch

Kolkata Knight Riders didn’t manage to shift gears from there as Chennai pegged back with timely wickets. Rahul Tripathi walked back after a well-made 81 off 51 but Dinesh Karthik’s poor form will keep the management thinking. A complete bowling effort was capped with a brilliant catch from MS Dhoni.

Dwayne Bravo kept it in the shortish length area and induces a thick outside edge on the slog from Shivam Mavi. MS Dhoni seemed to have signalled something to Bravo just before this delivery and it lacked some pace.

The 39-year-old dived full length to his right, juggled it on the first attempt and then takes the rebound with a sharp spring to his right. Sheer commitment and his athleticism was on full display while grabbing the catch.
