MS Dhoni was recently seen enjoying a bike ride in his hometown of Ranchi. His last appearance on the field was on Saturday during the Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) final league match in IPL 2024 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Unfortunately, it was a disappointing evening for Dhoni and CSK as RCB defeated them by 27 runs, eliminating them from the tournament. This victory secured RCB a spot in the playoffs, joining the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), and Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Following CSK’s exit from the league stage, Dhoni returned to Ranchi. A video posted by an X user showed the legendary cricketer riding a bike in his hometown. This season, Dhoni played the finisher role effectively for CSK, amassing 161 runs in 14 games with an impressive strike rate of 220.55, hitting 13 sixes and 14 fours.

Former Australian cricketer and CSK batter Matthew Hayden speculated that this might have been Dhoni’s final season as a player in the IPL. During a segment on Star Sports’ Cricket Live show, Hayden suggested that Dhoni could transition to a support staff role with CSK from the next season.
Matthew Hayden said: “I think this is it. I do believe that this will be the last time that MS Dhoni will play. Certainly, won’t be the last time that we see Dhoni. I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t mentor or be a part of the family of CSK in an official capacity. I suppose the thing is when you come to the end of your career, whether it is the last part of his career or not, what you don’t want to see is diminishing returns as an athlete.”
“This is telling me that nothing here is about becoming anything else other than first place. He’s desperately using his brains, all of that cricket knowledge. And of course, the power is there and that’s always been MS Dhoni. He’s always hit balls at this stage of an innings. At the front, you can understand how players can hit it. But at the back, it’s really hard to hit balls.”
