Australian skipper Pat Cummins delivered another impactful five-wicket haul, playing a key role in shifting the momentum back in his team’s favour during the World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa at Lord’s. The pace spearhead broke David Bedingham’s gritty innings of 45, becoming the first fast-bowling captain since Bob Willis in 1982 to claim a fifer at the iconic venue.
Cummins had earlier removed Wiaan Mulder for a low score on Day 1 and continued to shine as Australia’s standout bowler on Day 2. He took the lone wicket of Temba Bavuma in the morning session, as South Africa showed brief signs of resistance. However, Cummins led a fierce comeback after lunch.
Australia ultimately skittled South Africa out for just 138, collapsing them from 121/5 and securing a 74-run first-innings lead. Watch the clip below as David Bedingham edges one behind to Alex Carey for 45:

South Africa’s only meaningful stand came through the 64-run partnership between Bavuma and Bedingham, which spanned 114 deliveries. The momentum shifted dramatically after the tea break when the standout pacer struck twice in a single over, removing both Kyle Verreynne and Marco Jansen.
Pat Cummins bags six-wicket haul and joins 300 Test wickets club
The 32-year-old sealed his six-wicket haul by dismissing Kagiso Rabada, who attempted a powerful shot to mid-wicket, only for Beau Webster to pull off a stunning diving catch. With that wicket, Pat Cummins also became part of an elite group of Australian bowlers to claim 300 Test wickets.
Earlier, South Africa’s pace ace Rabada gave his team the upper hand by picking up five wickets and bowling Australia out for 212. However, the Australians responded strongly, leaving the Proteas reeling at 43/4, with Mitchell Starc grabbing two quick wickets. Australia, the reigning champions, secured the WTC mace in 2023 after defeating India at The Oval.
