Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Tim David was unable to contribute substantially with the bat during Qualifier 1 against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Tuesday, May 26. Coming to the crease in the 17th over after RCB opted to bat first, David looked to accelerate in the closing stages of the innings.
However, his stay was brief as he was dismissed for just four runs from five deliveries in the 18th over. Gujarat pacer Prasidh Krishna produced a sharp full-length delivery to remove the hard-hitting batter. Attempting a powerful leg-side shot, David failed to make contact, and the ball crashed into the stumps, ending his innings. Watch the video here:

Despite Tim David‘s departure, RCB ended their innings on a high, largely due to a sensational assault from captain Rajat Patidar. The right-hander remained unbeaten on a blistering 93 off just 33 deliveries, guiding the defending champions to an imposing 254/5 in their allotted 20 overs. In the process, RCB registered the highest team total ever recorded in IPL playoff history.
RCB Finish Strong as Patidar and Jitesh Add 40 Runs in Two Overs
Jitesh Sharma walked out to the middle after Tim David was dismissed off the final delivery of the 18th over. The wicketkeeper-batter made an immediate impact, remaining unbeaten on 15 from just five deliveries. Alongside Rajat Patidar, he stitched together an unbroken 40-run stand in only 12 balls, providing RCB with a powerful finish in the closing stages of the innings.
Earlier, Virat Kohli contributed 43 off 25 balls, while Devdutt Padikkal chipped in with a brisk 30 off 19 deliveries. For Gujarat Titans, Jason Holder and Kagiso Rabada were the standout bowlers, claiming two wickets apiece. The team that wins Qualifier 1 will secure a direct berth in the IPL 2026 final, while the losing side will get another opportunity in Qualifier 2 against the winner of the Eliminator between SunRisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals.
GT will script a new IPL playoff record if they successfully chase down the massive target. The current record for the highest successful chase in IPL playoff history belongs to Punjab Kings, who overhauled a 204-run target against Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2025.
