Ahead of the IPL 2025 showdown between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), former Indian cricketers Rahul Dravid and Ashish Nehra were seen sharing a warm moment. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, in Ahmedabad. Dravid, now the head coach of RR, took up the role following his successful tenure as India’s head coach, which ended after their T20 World Cup triumph in 2024.
On the other hand, Ashish Nehra has been guiding the Gujarat Titans since 2022. RR shared a heartwarming post on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, capturing the two icons in conversation. Dravid was spotted using crutches, having sustained an injury during a local match in Bengaluru prior to the IPL season.
“Hello Sir! Where were you playing cricket?,” Nehra funnily asked Dravid at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The Gujarat Titans have found their rhythm this season. Despite a loss in their opening match, they’ve bounced back with three straight wins leading into this encounter. Similarly, Rajasthan Royals have regained momentum after a slow start, securing victories in their last two matches following back-to-back defeats. Both teams will head into the clash riding a wave of confidence.
Rahul Dravid is back for another chapter with the Rajasthan Royals
Interestingly, this marks Rahul Dravid’s third association with the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. He led the team as captain from 2011 to 2013, scoring 343 runs in 2011, 462 in 2012, and 471 in 2013. Following his retirement after the 2013 season, Dravid transitioned into a mentorship role with RR, serving in that capacity during the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
In total, Dravid spent five seasons with the franchise in both playing and mentoring roles before turning his attention to national duties. He went on to take up key positions with the National Cricket Academy, the India U-19 team, and later, the senior Indian men’s team.
Now, after completing his tenure with the national side, Dravid has made his return to the Royals for a third spell—this time as head coach. He now works closely with Kumar Sangakkara, who serves as RR’s Director of Cricket.
