Ravindra Jadeja’s all-round performance powered India to a thumping victory against Sri Lanka on Sunday in Mohali. He smashed 175-runs in the first innings and took 9 wickets in the match, as India went on to win the game by an innings and 222 runs.

The all-rounder joined an elite list of Indian cricketers, who have achieved the double feat of scoring a century and taking a fifer in the same innings of a Test. He also became the first player in history to score more than 150 runs and pick up nine wickets in the same Test. Jadeja was welcomed to the hotel with a cake following India’s win on Sunday.

The 33-year old celebrated his achievement by cutting a cake, as the rest of the teammates got together and clapped. The BCCI shared a video from the celebrations, on their social media handles. They wrote:

“A round of applause 👏🏻👏🏻 for Ravindra Jadeja for his Man of the Match performance 🔝 Victory for #TeamIndia indeed tastes sweet 🍰😉.”

Reflecting on his performance in the Mohali Test match, Ravindra Jadeja stated that he played to his strengths. He added that he likes to keep things simple while at the crease. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Jadeja said:

“Obviously, as a player, you boost your confidence with such a performance. I have not done anything differently, just played to my strengths and I give myself time to settle down. I look to keep it very simple out in the middle.

When asked about playing with the SG pink ball in the second Test, Ravindra Jadeja said, “I haven’t played with the SG pink ball, so it is going to be different. I will practice for a couple of days, hopefully, it comes good,”

The Bangalore test match between India and Sri Lanka will be a Day & Night affair, starting on Saturday, March 12.
