Watch- When Ravindra Jadeja Said In 2018 That He Wants To Score A Century And Take A Fifer In The Same Innings

In a chat with ESPNcricinfo in 2018 on their famous YouTube show, ’25 questions with Cricketers’, Ravindra Jadeja had said that he wants to take a 5-for and hit a century in the same innings of a Test match. The all-rounder has finally achieved his goal now, four years later, in the Mohali Test against Sri Lanka.

With the bat in the first test, Jadeja smashed a 175-run unbeaten knock off 228 balls. During his innings, he hit 17 fours and three sixes. With each of Rishabh Pant, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Mohammed Shami, he formed a 100+ partnership. Thanks to Jadeja’s magnificent performance, India achieved a mammoth total of 574-8 (d) in the first innings

After the heroics with the bat, Ravindra Jadeja also caused problems for the Sri Lankan batters with his spin. In Sri Lanka’s first innings, Jadeja bowled 13 overs, picking up 5 wickets and conceding just 41 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja became only the sixth player in Test history to play a 150+ run knock and take a fifer in the same match. Vinoo Mankad, Denis Atkinson, Polly Umrigar, Gary Sobers, and Mushtaq Mohammad are the other five names in the list.

Ravindra Jadeja Surpasses Kapil Dev

With his innings of 175*, Ravindra Jadeja broke the record of Kapil Dev for the highest individual score by an Indian at No. 7 in Men’s Tests. Kapil had made 163 runs against Sri Lanka at Kanpur in December 1986 while batting at the same position.

Ravindra Jadeja also became the third Indian to make more than 150 runs in a Test innings while batting at No. 7 or below. Rishabh Pant is the only other batter in the list, along with Jadeja and Kapil. Pant had scored unbeaten 159 runs against Australia in Sydney in 2019.
