Veteran Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja secured his first wicket in the India vs New Zealand 2025 Champions Trophy final by dismissing Tom Latham. The highly anticipated match is being held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the UAE on Sunday, March 9.
Latham’s dismissal occurred on the second ball of the 24th over. Jadeja delivered a full-length ball on middle stump, which Latham attempted to sweep. However, the ball sneaked under his bat and struck him low on the pad. Umpire Paul Reiffel immediately raised his finger, signaling out. Latham opted for a review, but the ball-tracking technology confirmed three reds, upholding the on-field decision and marking Jadeja’s first breakthrough.

The New Zealand batter departed after scoring 14 runs off 30 balls. This marked the third time in ODI cricket that Jadeja had dismissed Latham, reducing New Zealand to 108/4 after 23.2 overs.
Early Setbacks for India After New Zealand’s Strong Start
New Zealand won the toss and chose to bat first. Their openers, Rachin Ravindra and Will Young, provided a solid foundation, adding 46 runs in the first six overs. However, Rachin had some lucky escapes as Mohammed Shami and Shreyas Iyer both dropped catches, putting India under pressure.
India found a breakthrough when Varun Chakaravarthy dismissed Will Young for 15 off 23 balls in the eighth over. The momentum shifted further in India’s favor when Kuldeep Yadav made an impact, first removing Rachin for 37 off 29 balls and then dismissing skipper Kane Williamson for 11 off 14 deliveries. These crucial wickets helped India regain control after New Zealand’s strong start.
Mitchell and Phillips Look to Steady New Zealand’s Innings
After the loss of Williamson, Tom Latham and Daryl Mitchell attempted to stabilize the innings, putting together a cautious 33-run partnership off 66 balls. However, Latham’s departure at 14 added to New Zealand’s troubles, leaving them in a vulnerable position.
At the latest update, New Zealand stood at 160/4 after 35 overs, with Mitchell batting on 44 and Glenn Phillips supporting him with 29 runs. With plenty of overs remaining, the Black Caps will aim to build a competitive total, while India looks to capitalize on their breakthroughs to maintain control of the match.
