[WATCH] Ravindra Jadeja Unleashes Iconic Sword Celebration After Half-Century In 2nd Test vs England

Team India’s seasoned all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja marked his half-century with his signature sword celebration on Day 2 of the second Test against England at Edgbaston on Thursday, July 3. The left-handed batter brought up his 23rd Test fifty, and his fourth on English soil, in familiar style.

Jadeja achieved the milestone in the 89th over of India’s first innings, guiding a single off Chris Woakes to deep square leg to complete his seventh Test fifty against England. You can watch the video here:

Ravindra Jadeja’s innings proved to be a much-needed boost for the visitors, especially after their successive batting collapses in the opening Test at Leeds. During his crucial stay at the crease, he stitched a century-plus stand with captain Shubman Gill for the sixth wicket, steadying the innings after India had slumped to 211/5 on Day 1.

Shubman Gill’s commanding century, coupled with Ravindra Jadeja’s composed half-century, kept India in control during their first innings of the second Test against England. At the time of writing, the visitors had reached 332/5 after 90.3 overs, with Gill unbeaten on 125 off 232 balls and Jadeja on 50 from 86 deliveries.

With Washington Sundar yet to bat, India will be eyeing a total in excess of 450. On Day 1, Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his impressive form, scoring a fluent 87 off 107 balls, laced with 13 boundaries. Contributions from Karun Nair (31 off 50) and Rishabh Pant (25 off 42) added further strength to the innings.

Among the English bowlers, Chris Woakes stood out, claiming two key wickets. England, led by Ben Stokes, currently hold a 1-0 lead in the five-match series, having secured a five-wicket victory in the opening Test at Leeds by chasing down a challenging target of 371.

They also have a successful history at Edgbaston, having chased 378 against India at the same venue in 2022. To level the series 1-1, India will need to deliver a strong all-round performance, especially in the absence of ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has been rested as part of workload management.
