India all-rounder Hardik Pandya may not have been the top scorer in India’s thrilling four-wicket win over Australia in the Champions Trophy semifinal, but he played a crucial role in chasing down the 265-run target. His quickfire 28 helped India secure victory with 11 balls to spare, sealing their third consecutive Champions Trophy final appearance.
Hardik arrived at the crease when India needed 49 runs from 44 balls, shortly after Virat Kohli’s dismissal for 84. Initially struggling against Nathan Ellis’ slower deliveries, he turned the tide with three massive sixes, shifting the momentum in India’s favor.
One of his sixes, hit off Tanveer Sangha in the 45th over, soared into the Royal Box of the Dubai International Stadium, where ICC chairman Jay Shah was seated. Shah, delighted by the shot, retrieved the ball and tossed it back onto the field.
In a recently surfaced video, India captain Rohit Sharma is seen playfully mimicking Hardik’s shot in front of the all-rounder, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and Shah after the match. Gambhir couldn’t hold back his laughter, while Shah animatedly recreated his own reaction to the six.
