Mumbai Indians (MI) wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow had his helmet autographed by Rohit Sharma after the team’s five-wicket loss to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2. The defeat marked the end of MI’s campaign, as they were unable to defend a 204-run total.

Following the team’s exit, Bairstow collected signatures from his Mumbai teammates on his helmet. Despite going unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction, the 35-year-old was later picked up by MI as a replacement player ahead of the playoffs. Mumbai Indians shared a video on Instagram showing Sharma signing Bairstow’s helmet.

Batting first, Mumbai Indians posted a strong total, with standout contributions from Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, both scoring 44 runs off 26 and 29 balls respectively. However, Punjab Kings chased down the target in just 19 overs, thanks to a brilliant unbeaten 87 off 41 balls by captain Shreyas Iyer.

With this, Punjab became the first team in IPL history to successfully chase a 200-plus score against Mumbai.

Jonny Bairstow Delivers Consecutive Impactful Innings in Brief MI Stint During IPL 2025

Jonny Bairstow made his debut for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 Eliminator, opening alongside Rohit Sharma. The explosive English batter scored a quick 47 off 22 deliveries in the high-stakes clash against Gujarat Titans (GT).

Bairstow and Sharma gave MI a flying start with a 84-run partnership off just 44 balls. Sharma’s blistering 81 off 50 deliveries helped Mumbai post a formidable total of 228. Despite a fighting 80 off 49 balls from Sai Sudharsan, Gujarat fell short, handing Mumbai a 20-run win and a place in Qualifier 2.

Bairstow continued his good form in Qualifier 2 as well. With Sharma dismissed in the third over, he stepped up under pressure, contributing a vital 38 from 24 balls to stabilize the innings during the powerplay.
