India were in a commanding position at stumps on day 1 of the Lord’s test on Thursday. KL Rahul’s unbeaten ton took India to 276/3 at stumps on day 1. Rohit Sharma also scored a brilliant 83 and was unlucky to miss out on a 100. He added a 126-run opening stand for the first wicket with KL Rahul which propelled India to dominate the day.
Meanwhile, after the day’s play Rohit Sharma attending the post-match press conference. While interacting with the reporters, one of them asked Rohit about a possible Indian victory on August 15, which is celebrated as Independence Day in the country.

Rohit had a witty response to the query from the reporter. He said that if something like this happens, it will be a big thing for Indian cricket. While saying the same, he also made a salute to the reporter to see the funny side of things as well.

Rohit Sharma finally converted his starts in England to a big score. He scored 36 in the first Test and was dismissed just when he was looking good. In the second Test, he took his time and played a spendid innings of 83 runs to give his team another solid start.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli scored 42 as Cheteshwar Pujara’s poor run of form continues. He scored just nine off 23 balls before he was caught in the slips by James Anderson.
The veteran England seamer was the best England bowler on show on the first day. He got the ball to swing both ways and dismissed a well-set Rohit for 83 with a ball jagging back in. Anderson ended the day with 2 for 52 from 20 overs. With Stuart Broad missing from the Test and the series onus will be on the 39-year-old to be on the money on day 2 as well.
