A 16-year-old Sachin Tendulkar made his international debut for India in 1989 and went on to become of the greatest ever to play the game. The right-handed batsman scored hundreds of centuries across all formats at the International level. However, just like any other cricketer Sachin too feels his maiden century was a special one.

On this day in 1990, Sachin Tendulkar slammed an unbeaten 119 runs off 189 balls, including 17 boundaries. He became the youngest Indian to score an International hundred.

Remembering his knock, the Master-blaster on Saturday, posted a video on his Instagram account. He wrote, “Reminiscing my first ever hundred! It was a special day in my life. 😀🏏#otd #throwback #flashback #oldtrafford #maiden #century #testcricket.”

In the high-scoring encounter at Manchester, England won the toss and opted to bat first. They put on a mammoth 519 on the board. In reply, India was bowled out for 432 runs, handing England an 87 runs lead in the first innings. The hosts set India a target of 407 runs to chase down in the fourth innings.

The visitors were in a spot of bother as they were reeling at 109 runs with their top four already back in the hut. In walked a young Sachin Tendulkar, to partner Mohammad Azharuddin at the crease. He scored his first international hundred and teamed up with Manoj Prabhakar to put on a 160 run stand and help India draw the test.

“I scored that 100 on August 14 and the next day was our Independence Day, so it was special. The headline was different and that hundred at least kept the series alive till next Test at the Oval,” Sachin Tendulkar said to PTI.
