WATCH: Sanju Samson Hammers Ferguson for Consecutive Sixes in 24-Run Over

Sanju Samson kept up his brilliant form in the T20 World Cup 2026 final between India and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 8. The wicketkeeper-batter smashed two back-to-back sixes off Lockie Ferguson during a powerful knock.

The big hits came in the 12th over of India’s innings. Ferguson started the over with a short ball on the leg stump, and Samson pulled it over deep square yleg for a six. The fast bowler then pitched the next ball up, and Samson stepped forward and smashed it straight over the sightscreen for another maximum.

Samson later ended the over with a boundary over mid-off, while Ishan Kishan also hit a six over long-on during the same over. Earlier this year, Samson had struggled against New Zealand in a five-match T20I series, which raised doubts about his place in India’s T20 World Cup squad.

However, he slowly found his rhythm in the tournament. He scored 22 off 8 balls against Namibia in the group stage and followed it with 24 off 15 against Zimbabwe in the Super 8s.

The Kerala batter then produced a match-winning unbeaten 97 off 50 balls against the West Indies in a virtual quarterfinal and continued his form with 89 off 42 against England in the semifinal.

Samson, Kishan Carry Forward Momentum After Abhishek Sharma’s Half-Century in T20 WC Final

Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan have taken control of the T20 World Cup 2026 final, helping India dominate New Zealand in what looks like a one-sided match. Earlier, Abhishek Sharma played a quick and impressive innings, scoring 52 runs off 21 balls, including three sixes and six fours, finally finding form after scoring just 80 runs in his previous six matches in the tournament.

Samson then took charge, blasting 89 off 46 balls with eight sixes and five boundaries. He put on a 98-run opening partnership and followed it up with a 105-run stand with Kishan for the second wicket. At the moment, India are 203/2 after 15.2 overs, with Kishan unbeaten on 54 off 24 balls and Hardik Pandya yet to score. For New Zealand, Rachin Ravindra and James Neesham have each taken one wicket.
