Watch – Shikhar Dhawan Takes A Brilliant As Chris Woakes Picks His First Wicket

Delhi Capitals have made a thumping start in their IPL 2021 game against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After Avesh Khan trapped Faf du Plessis, Shikhar Dhawan took a brilliant catch in the slip cordon to dismiss Ruturaj Gaikwad to send early tremors to Chennai batting after Delhi’s young and dynamic skipper Rishabh Pant asked his opposition to bat first.

The last year’s finalist – Delhi handed caps to Chris Woakes and Tom Curran and showed trust in young Avesh Khan in their bowling ahead of experienced Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings picked all-rounder Moeen Ali, whom they bagged for ₹7 crores during IPL 2021 auction.

Chris Woakes was right on the money with the new ball before Avesh Khan struck in the 2nd over. It was a brilliant inswinger that came back in after pitching. Faf du Plessis was a tad late to bring his bat and he was trapped right in front. Delhi Capitals backed this wicket with another, thanks to a brilliant catch from Shikhar Dhawan at the slips.

Shikhar Dhawan takes a fine catch at slips

It was a lovely delivery from Woakes that pitched up in that channel and just a hint of shape away from the right-hander. It drew Ruturaj Gaikwad forward into the defensive push, he did so with pretty hard hands and got a thick edge and Shikhar Dhawan does the rest. The Delhi opener dived across to his right at slip to take a brilliant catch. The thigh-slap celebrations are back and Chennai Super Kings find themselves in early trouble at 7 for two.

The dismissal brought Chennai Super Kings main man Suresh Raina into the middle. Raina will look to share a big partnership with Moeen Ali and set the platform for skipper MS Dhoni to unleash his big hits and post a commendable total on the scorecard.
