Mumbai Indians’ key spinner, Shreyas Gopal, showcased his fielding prowess by taking a superb catch off his own bowling to dismiss Harpreet Singh during the match against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur.

This crucial catch helped the five-time champions make an important breakthrough while defending their total of 192 runs. The dismissal occurred in the seventh over of the innings when Gopal delivered a well-executed googly on a good length.

Harpreet Singh Bhatia opted to stay back and attempted to chip the ball, but Gopal dived skillfully to his left and secured the catch. This catch also marked his first wicket of the innings.

Beforehand, PBKS skipper Sam Curran won the toss and opted to bowl first. Suryakumar Yadav shone with a 53-ball 78, supported by Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma who contributed 36 and 34 runs, respectively.

Harshal Patel emerged as the standout bowler for the home team, claiming three wickets, while Sam Curran and Kagiso Rabada each took a couple and one wicket, respectively.

The five-time champions secured a nine-run victory in Mullanpur despite the valiant efforts of Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma.

Mumbai Indians’ opening bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee wreaked havoc on the home side, reducing them to 14-4 after just 2.1 overs by dismissing Sam Curran, Prabhsimran Singh, Liam Livingstone, and Rilee Rossouw early in the innings.

The Punjab-based team found themselves struggling at 111-7 when Ashutosh Sharma unleashed a ferocious onslaught on the bowlers. Sharma reached his fifty from just 23 deliveries. His partnership of 57 runs with Harpreet Brar was broken in the 18th over when Gerald Coetzee dismissed him.

With 12 runs needed off the final over, Mohammad Nabi and Ishan Kishan combined to run out Kagiso Rabada, sealing a thrilling victory. This marked Mumbai’s third win of the season. Jasprit Bumrah delivered an exceptional spell, finishing with impressive figures of 4-0-21-3.
