Shreyas Iyer pulled off a spectacular catch to dismiss Alex Carey during the third ODI between India and Australia in Sydney on Saturday, October 25. The vice-captain covered significant ground before securing the catch while tumbling onto the field, injuring himself in the process. Carey was dismissed for 24 runs off 37 balls, as Australia lost their fourth wicket at 183.
The wicket fell in the 34th over when Harshit Rana bowled a back-of-a-length delivery outside off. Carey attempted a big shot but sliced the ball high into the air. Iyer sprinted back from the point region and timed his dive perfectly to take the catch. He left the field following an awkward landing.
India will now hope Shreyas Iyer recovers in time to contribute with the bat in the second innings chase. Notably, Iyer had scored a half-century in the previous match in Adelaide. You can watch the video here:

Harshit Rana Strikes As India Stifle Australia; Iyer Injured In 3rd ODI
India’s bowlers struck regularly to keep Australia under control in the third ODI. Mohammed Siraj gave India the first breakthrough by dismissing Travis Head for 29, followed by Axar Patel removing captain Mitchell Marsh for 41. Washington Sundar then accounted for last match’s hero Matthew Short (30), with Virat Kohli taking the catch.
Harshit Rana claimed his maiden wicket by sending Alex Carey back to the pavilion. At the latest update, Australia were 195/5 after 36.2 overs, with Cooper Connolly and Mitchell Owen at the crease. Washington Sundar has been the standout bowler with two wickets. Australia, the World Cup champions, had already won the series opener in Perth by seven wickets via the DLS method and followed it with a two-wicket win in Adelaide.
They will now aim for a clean series sweep. Meanwhile, India are hunting for a consolation win. Shubman Gill has lost three tosses in a row as ODI captain, extending an 18-toss losing streak. Suryakumar Yadav will lead India in the T20I series from October 29 in Canberra.
