India‘s opener Shubman Gill‘s brilliant innings came to an end at the hands of England’s seasoned spinner Adil Rashid in the third ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, February 12. Gill scored a superb 112 off 102 balls, extending his fine form after registering fifty-plus scores in the previous two matches of the series.
The stylish right-hander looked in sublime touch from the start, building key partnerships with Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer as India capitalized on the opportunity to bat first. He reached his seventh ODI century in the 32nd over with a boundary off Mark Wood.
With ample time left in the innings, Gill appeared set for an even bigger score. He smashed a six off Adil Rashid in the following over but soon fell to the leg-spinner, who had earlier removed Virat Kohli. Rashid deceived Gill with flight, bringing his impressive knock to an abrupt end.
Gill was tempted by the flighted delivery and quickly positioned himself for a full-blooded sweep shot. However, the lack of pace on the ball disrupted his timing, leaving him in an awkward position. With no time to adjust, he attempted a desperate swipe while partially down on one knee. The ball easily found the gap and crashed into the stumps, bringing his innings to an end.

After Gill’s dismissal, Team India stood at 226-3 in 34.3 overs. The vice-captain had fallen short of a century while batting at No. 3 in the first ODI but redeemed himself by reaching the three-figure mark after 14 innings in the format.
Shubman Gill dazzles with 14 fours and 3 sixes in his brilliant knock
Gill had faced criticism from fans and experts for his recent performances and was even left out of the Boxing Day Test in the Border-Gavaskar series. However, his reputation in white-ball cricket remains intact. Though he, like most of his teammates, struggled for runs during the Sri Lanka tour, he has regained top form at a crucial moment.
