India’s Test captain Shubman Gill made a smart tactical move by refusing Mohammed Siraj’s suggestion to place a fielder in a certain position. The decision paid off quickly as Zak Crawley was caught by Sai Sudharsan for a seven-ball duck, giving India an early breakthrough.
Earlier, Gill’s aggressive 161, along with fifties from KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja, helped India set a massive target of 608 runs for England. In reply, Akash Deep and Siraj bowled with discipline, sticking to tight lines and lengths, leaving openers Crawley and Ben Duckett struggling to escape the pressure.
“Main udhar ki baat kar raha hu. Udhar bhi hai (I am talking about that position. One fielder is there as well),” Siraj was heard telling Gill on the stump mic.
“Udhar catch jaayega. Pichhle mein bhi udhar out hua hai, maan le. Ye waisa wicket nahi hai, Leeds wala wicket nahi hai. Normal daal (A catch would go there. He was dismissed there in the last innings as well. This wicket is not like the Leeds one),” Gill replied.
Siraj followed up with a wide delivery, which Crawley chased with a careless drive, only to be caught by Sai Sudharsan at backward point. This marked England’s seventh duck in the match. Interestingly, Crawley had also fallen to Siraj in the first innings, caught in the slips. You can watch the video here:

Shubman Gill Scripts History With Twin Centuries As India’s Test Captain
After scoring a double century in the first innings and a hundred in the second, Shubman Gill became only the third Indian captain to hit twin centuries in a single Test match. He joined the elite company of Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli. Gavaskar was the first, with scores of 107 and an unbeaten 182 against the West Indies in Kolkata in 1987.
Kohli followed with 115 and 141 against Australia in Adelaide in 2014. Gill also became just the second Indian to score both a double hundred and a century in the same Test—matching a rare feat first achieved by Gavaskar.
In total, only nine players in Test history have managed this accomplishment. Gill has been in exceptional form, making a dream start to his Test captaincy. He had also scored a century in the first innings of the opening Test.
