Mohammed Siraj provided a much-needed breakthrough for India on Day 3 of the first Test at Headingley, Leeds, on Sunday, June 22, ending England’s lower-order resistance. The pacer dismissed Brydon Carse for 22 with a superb yorker, breaking a frustrating 55-run eighth-wicket stand with Chris Woakes.
The wicket came in the 95th over of England’s first innings. Having set Carse up with a series of short balls, Siraj switched to a fuller delivery aimed at the off-stump. Carse tried to make room by moving to the leg side but missed the shot, allowing the ball to crash into the base of the off-stump.
This marked Mohammed Siraj’s second wicket of the innings, having earlier removed England skipper Ben Stokes. You can watch the video here:

Opening Test in the Balance as England Fight Back on Day 3; Bumrah Shines with Five-Wicket Haul
The opening Test of the five-match series remains finely balanced after England staged a strong fightback with the bat on Day 3 of their first innings. Ollie Pope led the charge with a fluent 106 off 137 deliveries, striking 14 fours. Harry Brook narrowly missed out on a century, scoring 99 off 112 balls, which included two sixes and 11 boundaries.
Contributions from Ben Duckett (62 off 94) and Jamie Smith (40 off 52) further boosted England’s total. The hosts were eventually bowled out for 465, giving India a slender lead of just six runs at the tea break. Jasprit Bumrah was the standout performer with the ball, claiming five wickets, while Prasidh Krishna chipped in with three.
Earlier, India had posted 471 in their first innings, anchored by centuries from captain Shubman Gill (147 off 227), vice-captain Rishabh Pant (134 off 178), and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (101 off 159). Despite the strong top-order showing, India collapsed late on Day 2, losing their final seven wickets for just 41 runs.
For England, Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue were the most effective bowlers, each picking up four wickets.
