India’s senior stars, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, were seen batting together in the nets at Ranchi ahead of the ODI series opener against South Africa, scheduled for Sunday, November 30, at the JSCA International Stadium Complex. A video shared by one of Kohli’s fan clubs showed the two former captains training hard, with Kohli at the crease and Sharma at the non-striker’s end.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were last seen playing during India’s three-match ODI series in Australia last month, which the Men in Blue lost 1-2. Despite the series defeat, Sharma’s performance stood out, as he emerged the top scorer for India with 202 runs in three innings.

The star opener shone in the third ODI, scoring an unbeaten 121 off 125 balls to guide India to a nine-wicket victory. Kohli, on the other hand, struggled at the start, recording ducks in the first two matches, but bounced back with a strong finish, hitting an unbeaten 74 off 81 balls in the final game.

Kohli, Rohit Join IND Squad Under Rahul’s Captaincy For SA ODIs

Team India will miss ODI captain Shubman Gill for the upcoming series, as the right-handed batter sustained a neck injury during the first Test of the recent two-match series against South Africa. In addition, vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has also been ruled out, still recovering from a rib cage injury suffered while fielding during the ODI tour in Australia.

With both the captain and vice-captain unavailable, wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul has been named stand-in skipper. Meanwhile, top-order batter Ruturaj Gaikwad makes a return to India’s 50-over squad after a two-year gap.

The series opener will be held in Ranchi, followed by the second ODI at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur on December 3, and the third ODI at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on December 6.
