USA opener Steven Taylor made an early bid for catch of the tournament with his spectacular grab to dismiss Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan in their ongoing Group A match. The 2024 T20 World Cup game is being played at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
Pakistan batted first, and Nosthush Kenjige began with a precise opening over. Left-arm fast bowler Saurabh Netravalkar took the ball from the other end and made an impact with his second delivery.
Netravalkar bowled a standard length delivery that angled back in slightly, catching Rizwan off guard and restricting his space. Attempting to defend, Rizwan only managed a thick outside edge.
Steven Taylor at slip faced a difficult challenge as the ball was low and far to his right. Nevertheless, he managed to get his fingers under the ball with a perfectly timed dive, completing a remarkable catch. Check out the brilliant catch here:

Wild celebrations erupted after Taylor secured the catch, with fielders gathering around him to celebrate the early breakthrough. The catch evoked memories of Bermuda’s Dwayne Leverock’s famous catch in the 2007 ODI World Cup against India in Port of Spain, where the slip fielder also had to dive fully to his right to make the catch.

The early wicket put Pakistan under significant pressure, and the USA maintained the intensity on the top order. Their persistent bowling paid off as Usman Khan was caught at long-off in the third over.
Taylor was called into action again, taking another catch to dismiss Fakhar Zaman in the fifth over. Zaman’s attempt at an unconventional shot resulted in a straightforward catch for Taylor, contrasting with his earlier spectacular effort.
At the time of writing, Pakistan was trying to rebuild while making the most of the fielding restrictions. They were struggling at 26-3 after five overs, with the experienced duo of Babar Azam and Shadab Khan at the crease.
