[WATCH] Suryakumar Yadav Channels ‘Ballu’ From ‘Welcome’ After Ankle Injury

Suryakumar Yadav, a prominent cricketer from Star India, faces an unexpected setback as he is set to miss matches until February 2024 due to a significant ankle injury classified as Grade-II. This injury occurred during the third T20I against South Africa at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, where Yadav, who was captaining the T20I side, sustained an ankle twist while fielding.

Presently, Suryakumar is enjoying a leisurely break with his spouse, Devisha Shetty, in London, as seen with his pneumatic walking boot. Recent footage showcased Yadav taking tentative steps with the assistance of a walking stick. Despite his injury, he managed to lighten the mood by drawing a humorous comparison with ‘Ballu,’ a fictitious character from the popular Bollywood film ‘Welcome,’ who feigned a leg injury with a fabricated backstory.

Yadav shared this amusing video on his Instagram, ensuring fans of his swift return to the field. In a heartfelt message accompanying the video, Yadav acknowledged the challenges of injuries but assured fans of his determination to recuperate swiftly. He also encouraged his followers to embrace the festive spirit and cherish everyday moments.

Suryakumar’s absence will undoubtedly be felt, especially after his outstanding performance in the third T20I against South Africa, where he achieved a remarkable century, contributing significantly to India’s score of over 200 runs. His stellar innings of 100 runs off 56 deliveries included 7 boundaries and 8 maximums, marking his fourth T20I century.

This accomplishment places him in an elite group, alongside Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Glenn Maxwell, as one of only three players with four T20I centuries. Impressively, Yadav achieved this milestone in just 57 matches, accumulating 2141 runs at an impressive average of 45.55 and a striking rate of 171.55, complemented by four centuries and 17 half-centuries.

Given Yadav’s absence and with Hardik Pandya also sidelined due to injury, India faces the challenge of appointing a new captain for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, commencing on 11 January. This situation presents an opportunity for other talented players to step up and lead the team in Yadav’s and Pandya’s absence.
