Suryakumar Yadav did not take long before he showed his worth in the 1st T20I between India and South Africa at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack. The Indian T20I captain, with a simple movement of his hands, sent the ball through the sky, and that was the first six of the match. This was against the South African pacer Kagiso Rabada, who has a lot of experience, and Yadav’s aggressive style was the reason he was the captain of the Indian T20 team, showing it right from the first ball.

Yadav’s shot was a clear signal of his determination, showing the mastery and self-assurance that have been the reasons for him being a key player for India in the shortest format of the game. It was a big leg-side six hit off the quality bowler Rabada, which easily revealed Yadav’s readiness to take on top opposition without a second thought.

Suryakumar Yadav, the T20I captain of India, went to the pitch after Gill’s dismissal, and the team was in a bad situation with only 1 wicket fallen for 5 runs. He was with Abhishek Sharma on the wicket and Yadav started doing it the hard way, showing restraint against the bowling of Marco Jansen. But, suddenly, his attitude changed when Kagiso Rabada came to bowl. On the second ball of the third over, Yadav declared his intent for an attack by hitting a four on the leg side, followed by a big six. Both the shots were played with his trademark wrist action, which was to find the boundary with the least footwork.

Then came the next highlight when Rabada Da tried to bowl a length ball on the pads. Yadav anticipated the delivery early and made a mistake of timing his flick just right that flew over the deep mid-wicket for the first six of the match. His encouraging technique seemed to bear fruit, but his innings was cut short as it had started. It was with the very next ball that Yadav got out after scoring a dozen runs off 11 balls, so he had to walk back to the dugout, and thus, the brief but significant presence of Yadav at the crease came to an end.
