India captain Suryakumar Yadav quickly responded to a task involving star batter Virat Kohli during the captains’ event held ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026. India are set to face the USA in their tournament opener on February 7 in Mumbai.

At the event, Suryakumar was asked to shake hands with one of the hosts if he was a fan of Virat Kohli. Without hesitation, he turned around, shook hands, and nodded in agreement, making it clear that he is indeed a Kohli admirer.

Virat Kohli was a key member of India’s triumphant T20 World Cup 2024 campaign and delivered a vital innings in the final against South Africa, scoring 76 off 59 balls, which included six fours and two sixes. Following the title-winning run, Kohli announced his retirement from T20 internationals.

Notably, he remains India’s leading run-scorer in T20 World Cup history, having amassed 1,292 runs in 35 matches at a remarkable average of 58.72, with 15 half-centuries to his name.

“Relieved to regain my form” – Suryakumar Yadav before T20 World Cup 2026

Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, Suryakumar Yadav admitted he was relieved to rediscover his touch at a crucial stage. The Indian skipper endured a difficult 2025 in T20Is, scoring just 218 runs in 19 appearances at an average of 13.62 and a strike rate of 123.16.

However, he bounced back in style during the recently concluded T20I series against New Zealand. Across five matches, Suryakumar amassed 242 runs at an impressive average of 80.66 and a blistering strike rate of 196.74, including three half-centuries.

“The way we have been playing, it looks like that (the pressure is on us). I am very relieved to get my form back. Good to be back among the runs before a big tournament,” he was quoted as saying by The Indian Express during the captain’s press conference ahead of the T20 World Cup.
