Team India batter Shubman Gill was seen at Mumbai airport on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, days after his omission from the T20 World Cup squad, which was announced on Saturday, December 20. In a surprising move, Gill was not only relieved of the vice-captaincy but was also excluded from the squad for the New Zealand series as well as the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Following the announcement, the Indian star was spotted checking in at the airport, cutting a sharp and stylish figure. India’s Test and ODI captain opted for a plain black t-shirt paired with off-white trousers, completing his look with a wristwatch, shoes, and sunglasses. You can watch the video here:

Gill featured in India’s recently concluded T20I series against South Africa, where he managed only 32 runs across three matches. He was subsequently rested for the final two games of the series due to a niggle in his right foot.
“Shubman Gill sustained an impact injury to his right foot while batting in the nets on December 16 in Lucknow. After consulting a specialist and receiving treatment from the BCCI medical team, he is improving,” a statement from the BCCI read. (via Cricbuzz)
Shubman Gill Omitted From T20 World Cup Squad After Struggles In T20Is
Shubman Gill made his return to the T20I lineup during the 2025 Asia Cup, where he accumulated 127 runs from seven matches at an average of 21.16 and a strike rate of 151.19. India subsequently toured Australia for a five-match T20I series, in which Gill scored 132 runs across five games, averaging 44.00 with a strike rate of 136.08.
However, he endured another below-par outing in the series against South Africa. Overall, since his comeback, Gill has managed only 291 runs from 15 T20I innings at an average of 24.25, without registering a single half-century. With the 2026 T20 World Cup drawing closer, his inconsistent returns increasingly emerged as a major concern for the team management.
As a result, the selectors and team leadership were forced to make a difficult but decisive call, opting to leave him out in a bold selection move.
