The Indian women’s cricket team is off to Birmingham, England for the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2022. Women’s T20 cricket will be making its debut at the Commonwealth Games this year. Earlier, the men’s teams played an ODI tournament at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games. India will be taking on Australia to kick off their campaign in the 2022 edition of the Commonwealth Games (CWG) on July 29 Friday.

On Sunday, the Sports Authority of India shared a video of Team India departing for Birmingham for the mega-event. The Indian team was send-off amid lovely applause from the officials with flowers and the Indian flag in their hands at the Bengaluru airport. Sharing the video, the SAI wrote,

Team India squad and schedule for the CWG 2022

The Board of Control for Cricket in India recently announced the Indian women’s team squad for the upcoming Commonwealth Games. Harmanpreet Kaur was appointed as the skipper of the 15-member squad, while Smriti Mandhana will be her deputy. Meanwhile, Richa Ghosh, Simran Bahadur, and Poonam Yadav have been kept on standby for the quadrennial event.

In the Commonwealth Games 2022, eight teams will be participating. India is in Group A alongside Australia, Pakistan, and Barbados. They will begin their campaign on July 29 against Australia, followed by the high-octane clash against Pakistan on July 31. India will be playing their final league match against Barbados on August 3.
