Jaiswal made his Test debut in July 2023 against the West Indies, making an immediate impact with a brilliant 171-run knock in India’s first innings. His first T20I appearance followed in August 2023, also against the West Indies.
The 23-year-old has featured in 19 Tests and 23 T20Is, accumulating 2,521 international runs. Meanwhile, Rana received his maiden Test cap during the opening match of India’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in November last year.
He made his T20I debut during India’s recently concluded five-match series against England, entering as a concussion substitute for Shivam Dube. So far, Rana has played two Tests and one T20I, claiming a total of seven wickets across both formats.
England Wins Toss, Elects to Bat First in ODI Series Opener Against India
England skipper Jos Buttler won the toss and elected to bat first in the ODI series opener against India in Nagpur. The hosts were without senior batter Virat Kohli, who was unavailable due to a knee issue. At the toss, Rohit Sharma mentioned that India had planned to bowl first regardless. He said:
“We would have bowled, it does not matter now. We know that we will have the bowl in our hands now and we want to be nice and aggressive at the start and see where we go. It was really nice to get some time off but it is a great chance to do well at the same time.”
“It is really important for us to get some game time, try and maximize whatever opportunity we get. Yashasvi and Harshit make their debuts and unfortunately Virat is going to miss out as he had a problem in his right knee which happened late in the last night.”
