Sanju Samson was named Player of the Tournament after finishing as India’s top run-scorer in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The right-handed batter produced a brilliant knock of 89 off 46 balls against New Zealand in the final in Ahmedabad.
Earlier in the tournament, he had also delivered crucial performances, scoring 97* (50) against the West Indies in the virtual quarterfinal in Kolkata and 89 (42) against England in the semifinal in Mumbai. Overall, Samson amassed 321 runs in five innings at an impressive strike rate of 199.37.
“Setbacks Made Me Stronger”: Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson expressed gratitude for being able to contribute to Team India’s success in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, especially after making a strong comeback from a series of failures against New Zealand earlier this year in the T20Is. While subtly referring to himself as an alchemist for turning setbacks into success, he told ANI:
“I am trained to look at situations in a positive manner from my childhood days. I generally feel that all the pain, all the setbacks have made me much stronger, and that is the only reason why I could do what I did. I feel that all the pain, setbacks, and disappointments in life and in my career, if used positively, can be a great strength in your life. That’s what happened, and I’m very grateful.”
“It was like a dream. I was courageous enough to have this dream. I want to win it for my country. I want to contribute in such a way that it becomes what it is now. I am very happy and feeling very blessed.”
