[WATCH] Team India Star Rejoins Squad At Chennai Hotel Ahead Of IND vs ZIM Super 8 Clash

Rinku Singh has rejoined Team India at their hotel in Chennai ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 fixture against Zimbabwe, set to be played on Thursday, February 26, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Rinku had temporarily left the squad on February 24 due to a family emergency, as his father was unwell.

After missing India’s first training session before the clash, he has now returned to the camp in time for the match. He was spotted at the team hotel alongside skipper Suryakumar Yadav and wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Rinku wore a full-sleeve purple sweatshirt, Suryakumar was seen in a pink kurta, while Kuldeep opted for a white t-shirt paired with a grey jacket.

Earlier, during a pre-match press conference in Chennai, Sitanshu Kotak confirmed that Rinku was likely to rejoin the squad ahead of the Zimbabwe encounter.

“And Rinku, his father wasn’t well so he went back and I think he is coming back today evening. So, hopefully he will be back today evening,” he had said. (via Hindustan Times)

It is yet to be determined whether Rinku will continue in the playing XI or be replaced for the key fixture. With their semifinal aspirations on the line, India must secure a victory against Zimbabwe to stay in contention.

Should India Persist With Rinku Singh In The Playing XI?

Rinku Singh has not managed to make a significant contribution with the bat in the T20 World Cup 2026. Regardless of his availability, doubts have emerged regarding his form and position in the lineup. Across five matches, he has scored just 24 runs at an average of 8.00 and a strike rate of 82.75.

Operating as a finisher, the left-hander has failed to provide the impactful late runs the side expects. With India currently under pressure, the team management may think about replacing Rinku with Sanju Samson to add more stability to the batting order, especially after the collapse against South Africa in a high-pressure situation.
