Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) pacer Nuwan Thushara unleashed a sharp bouncer at Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) opener Matthew Breetzke during their IPL 2025 clash on Tuesday, May 27. The incident occurred in the third over after LSG were sent in to bat first.

On the third delivery of the over, Thushara delivered a fiery short ball that struck Breetzke on the helmet as he attempted a pull shot. The ball, deflected off the helmet, sped away to the boundary for four runs. You can watch the video here:

Nuwan Thushara was acquired by RCB for ₹1.60 crore during the IPL 2025 mega-auction. He made his league debut last season, playing for the Mumbai Indians (MI). In his first IPL campaign, the 30-year-old picked up eight wickets in seven innings, recording an economy rate of 9.88.

Nuwan Thushara provided RCB with an early breakthrough by dismissing Matthew Breetzke in the third over of the innings. After unsettling the batter with a sharp bouncer earlier, Thushara attempted a yorker but ended up delivering a low full-toss.

The ball had slight away movement, catching Breetzke off-guard as he tried to drive, and it went on to shatter the stumps. Breetzke’s innings came to an end at 14 runs off 12 balls, which included a six and a four. Thushara’s opening spell proved effective, giving away just 19 runs in his first three overs while claiming a crucial wicket.

This match holds significant importance for RCB. Although they have already secured a playoff berth in IPL 2025, a win in this game would guarantee them a top-two finish. However, a loss would push them down to third place, forcing them to win both the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 to reach the final.
