During the second T20I on Friday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, a light-hearted moment unfolded between Australia’s all-rounder Tim David and India’s spinner Varun Chakravarthy. The incident took place in the ninth over of Australia’s chase of 126 runs.

As Chakravarthy was about to deliver his second ball of the over, David stepped back from his stance. In response, Chakravarthy completed his run-up but chose not to bowl, instead returning calmly to his mark. The amusing exchange drew a smile from India’s T20I skipper, Suryakumar Yadav, who enjoyed the playful interaction between the two players.

A few balls later, Varun Chakravarthy had the last laugh as he dismissed Tim David with a brilliant caught-and-bowled effort. The Indian spinner bowled a length delivery on middle and leg, which David mistimed and chipped straight back to him. Chakravarthy wrapped up his spell with impressive figures of 2 for 23 in his four overs.

Josh Hazlewood & Mitchell Marsh Star As Australia Defeat India By Four Wickets

In the match summary, Josh Hazlewood was the star with the ball, taking three wickets for just 13 runs to give Australia an early advantage. Skipper Mitchell Marsh then powered the chase with a fiery 46, guiding his team to a four-wicket win. Hazlewood’s brilliant four-over spell upfront laid the foundation, as India were bowled out for 125 in 18.4 overs after Marsh opted to field first upon winning the toss.

For India, opener Abhishek Sharma was the standout, smashing a brilliant 68 off 37 balls, including eight fours and two sixes. His explosive knock accounted for more than half of India’s total before he was dismissed as the ninth wicket in the 19th over. Australia comfortably chased down the target, finishing at 126 for 6 in just 13.2 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah added a brief twist by taking two wickets in consecutive deliveries when the hosts needed only two runs to win, but Marsh’s quickfire 46 off 26 balls sealed the victory with 40 balls to spare. Following the rain-hit opener in Canberra on Wednesday, the second T20I drew a massive crowd of over 82,400 spectators at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The series now moves to Hobart for the third T20I on Sunday, before concluding with a double-header in Queensland next week.
