Following the recent controversy surrounding Jonny Bairstow‘s dismissal in the Lord’s Test, a video from 2011 has resurfaced, showcasing MS Dhoni‘s act of recalling Ian Bell by withdrawing his run-out appeal.
The contentious dismissal of England’s wicket-keeper batter Jonny Bairstow has sparked a spirited debate on social media regarding the ‘spirit of cricket.’
Bairstow was caught off guard as he ventured out of his crease, leading to Australia’s wicket-keeper Alex Carey dislodging the bails and dismissing him via a run-out.
As fans discuss whether Australia’s decision was justified, memories have been reignited of MS Dhoni’s similar act during an India vs. England Test match in 2011.
He withdrew a run-out appeal, allowing Ian Bell, who had already been dismissed, to resume batting.

The incident took place in the second innings of the second Test between India and England at Nottingham.
Eoin Morgan struck a delivery from Ishant Sharma towards the leg-side, which Praveen Kumar prevented from crossing the boundary just in time.
However, both the England and some Indian players believed that the ball had touched the rope.
Praveen gently picked up the ball and returned it to wicket-keeper Dhoni. He then passed it to a fielder that dislodged the bails while the batsmen were standing outside the crease.
Commentators Michael Holding and Shane Warne expressed their intrigue and confusion over the incident on-air.
After a review by the umpires to determine if it was a boundary, Ian Bell was given a run-out, much to the surprise of the England team.
However, during the tea break, India’s players decided to withdraw their appeal, leading to Bell’s recall to the pitch when the final session of the day resumed.
Ultimately, India lost the Test by a margin of 319 runs.
