Former Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper, Virat Kohli recalled the emotional moment, when AB De Villiers, sent him a voice note to inform him about his retirement. The SA batter shocked everyone with his decision last year.

Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers were together at the Royal Challengers Bangalore since the 2011 season. The duo got along well and share a great bond.

In a video uploaded by the franchise on their YouTube channel, Virat Kohli spoke about the former cricketer and his retirement. The Indian cricketer accepted that it was very emotional moment for him.

“It’s very strange. I remember when he decided to finally call it a day, he sent me a voice note.  I opened it and listened to it, Anushka was with me, and I was like this (shocked), showed her the message, the WhatsApp chat, and the voice note from AB De Villiers, the first thing she said to me was, ‘don’t tell me’, she knew,” Virat Kohli recalled.

The former RCB further revealed that he guessed last IPL, that something like this would happen. He said:

“I kind of had the impression and was guessing it last IPL. As our rooms were next to each other, every time I would walk to my room, and he would see me, he would be like ‘I wanna see you for coffee, one of these days’. I kept getting nervous, I was like ‘I am not sitting with you. I think there is something coming.’ He said no man there is nothing, I just want to sit and chat with you, it’s been a while. And he never speaks like that.”

“So I knew something was brewing up. The voice note was also very emotional for me. He said ‘I don’t have it in me anymore,” Virat Kohli added.

The Indian cricketer also spoke about the bond that he and De Villiers shared. He added, that the former batter has touched so many players’ life in the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise. Kohli said:

“I have shared so many moments with him, the highs and lows, everything, he’s been right next to me through thick and thin. I was actually thinking about it the other day, that if we managed to win the title in the coming seasons, I would be very emotional thinking about him first rather than what I would experience after such hard work of so many years.”

Virat Kohli expressed that he will be very emotional if the Royal Challengers Bangalore wins the IPL title in the coming years, thinking about AB De Villiers. He added that the title means a lot to De Villiers, even if he is not present with the team anymore.

“I would actually think of him. How much it would still mean to him, watching from home. He is a special human being, he has touched everyone’s lives here, we can all vouch for that. He has been amazing. I don’t think there is one person here, who will say AB has not contributed to my life in some way or the other,” Virat Kohli concluded.
