South Africa’s Simon Harmer continued his impressive bowling form by claiming Washington Sundar’s wicket to complete his five-wicket haul on Day 5 of the second Test against India in Guwahati on Wednesday, November 26. Sundar fell in a manner almost identical to his earlier dismissal to the same bowler and slip fielder, scoring 16 off 44 balls in India’s second innings.
The wicket came in the 61st over of India’s chase. Harmer delivered a length ball outside off at 90.1 kmph. Sundar attempted to defend but left a gap, edging the ball to Aiden Markram, who took the catch, his ninth of the match, setting a record for most catches in a Test. You can watch the video here:

Simon Harmer was a constant threat to India throughout the Test series. The 36-year-old took eight wickets in the first Test, helping South Africa secure a 30-run victory and a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. He has already claimed eight wickets (and counting) in the second Test, as the visitors edge closer to a 2-0 series whitewash.
Meanwhile, Washington Sundar showed resilience with the bat, facing the most deliveries in the first Test while batting at No. 3. In the second Test, he scored 16 off 44 balls in the second innings and earlier lasted 92 balls for 48 in the first innings. The team management may consider promoting him higher in the batting order.
Simon Harmer Stars As South Africa Near 2-0 Sweep Over India In 2nd Test
Simon Harmer’s five-wicket haul has firmly put South Africa in control against India, as the visitors chase their first Test series win on Indian soil since 1999/2000. At the time of writing, India were struggling at 138/8, with Ravindra Jadeja unbeaten on 53 and Jasprit Bumrah yet to score. Harmer has been the standout bowler, claiming six wickets so far.
Earlier, South Africa scored 489 in their first innings, while India were dismissed for 201 in reply. The Proteas then declared their second innings at 260/5, setting a huge target of 459 for the hosts. India now face the prospect of losing their second home Test series in just over a year, following a 0-3 defeat to New Zealand in October 2024.
