[WATCH] Washington Sundar Sacrifices His Wicket For Surya Kumar Yadav In 2nd T20I
India beat New Zealand by 6 wickets in the 2nd T20I

Washington Sundar The Indian Cricket Team won a low-scoring thriller in the 2nd T20I match played at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow on 29 January 2023.

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santer won the toss and decided to bat first. The Indian bowlers especially spinners created a lot of trouble by not allowing the Kiwi batters to score runs easily.

Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Chahal, Deepak Hooda, and Kuldeep Yadav took 1 wicket each while Arshdeep Singh took 2 wickets. It was a disciplined bowling effort by Indian bowlers to restrict New Zealand to just 99 for 8. New Zealand captain Mitchell Santer was the top scorer for the visitors.

Chasing 100 runs to win, Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan began cautiously before Gill was caught by Finn Allen. It was a struggle for the Indian batters also with Ishan Kishan struggling for runs. At the end of the first six overs, India made 29 for 1.

The pitch was tough to bat on as New Zealand spinners including Santer, Ish Sodhi, and Glenn Phillips created enough pressure. Ishan Kishan’s struggle ended up being run out trying to take the second run. Rahul Tripathi also fell with a simple catch to Glenn Phillips.

Washington Sundar and Surya Kumar Yadav steadied the ship for the Indian team keeping the scoreboard ticking. Sundar sacrificed his wicket as Surya Kumar did not respond to a call that resulted in the run-out in the 15th over. With 3 runs required off 2 deliveries, Surya hit the boundary off Tickner as India made it 1-1 with 1 ball to spare.

It was a tough bat to the wicket on as there was no six hit in the match. Surya Kumar Yadav was named the player of the match award for his unbeaten 26 off 31 balls. The Indian batters struggled as Gill, Ishan Kishan and Rahul Tripathi failed to cash in.

The third and deciding T20I match would be played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 1 February.
