The T20 World Cup 2022 has seen two big upsets in a matter of two days. First, England lost to Ireland, and the second was Pakistan going down against Zimbabwe by one run in Perth on Friday, October 28.
Both teams battled it out in a nail-biting encounter yesterday. Pakistan was supposed to cruise through this match, but Zimbabwe had other plans. Pakistan required three off the last ball, and Shaheen Shah Afridi was on strike.
He took the single and was coming back for a second, and the bails were taken out, meaning that Zimbabwe won by a run. This victory saw them breaking into wild and emotional celebrations, which took social media by storm.

Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to bat. They started strong, but the dismissal of their captain Craig Ervine began the team’s downfall and they settled for a total of a mere 130. In response, Pakistan openers were dismissed cheaply, and Shan Masood looked well-settled but didn’t have any partners to support him.
The turning point came when Sikander Raza picked two consecutive wickets, reducing Pakistan to 94/6. It seemed that the team in green came back into the game in the last over, but Zimbabwe held their nerve and ensured that the opposition didn’t cross the line.
Sikander Raza was named the Player of the Match for picking up three wickets in his full quota of overs. This was his third player of the match award in this tournament.
This isn’t the first upset in this edition of the T20 World Cup. Ireland defeated two-time champions West Indies in the qualifiers to knock them out of the tournament. Namibia was seen defeating Sri Lanka in their opening encounters. Does a question arise of whether there are any further surprises that this edition of the tournament unfolds or not?
