Royal Challengers Bangalore’s director of cricket, Mike Hesson believes a big inning is around the corner for Virat Kohli. The Indian cricketer has been struggling to make an impact in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season.
In thirteen matches, Virat Kohli has scored 236 runs at an average of 19.67 and a strike rate of 113.46. He has scored as many as three ducks in this Indian Premier League season. On Friday against the Punjab Kings, Virat Kohli looked in good touch and began his innings on a positive note. He quickly raced off to 20 runs off 13 balls, with two boundaries and a six.
However, the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s opener perished while attempting a pull against Kagiso Rabada. The pacer bowled a short of a length delivery, which followed Kohli as he backed away, and cramped him for room. Kohli still tried to play the shot, but the ball brushed his glove and was caught by Rahul Chahar at short fine.
Speaking to Espncricinfo, Mike Hesson expressed that Virat Kohli looked in good touch today. He added that the Indian cricketer is as frustrated with his dismissals as anyone else is. Hesson said,
“Virat, I thought, looked very good today. He looked in good touch, he was aggressive, and he is doing everything off the park as well in terms of making sure he prepares well. I thought today was going to be his day but once again… it hits the other side of the thigh pad and goes down and he gets a single.”
“He hasn’t had a huge amount of huge fortune especially when he has got himself set when he has got himself in. He is as frustrated as anybody. We thought today was going to be the day,” he added.
It is not a technical thing – Mike Hesson on the reason behind Virat Kohli’s poor run in IPL 2022
Mike Hesson further expressed that Virat Kohli is the best that the Royal Challengers Bangalore has ever had. He added that the right-hander is putting in the hard yards behind the scenes to make a comeback. On asked what is the reason behind his poor run, Hesson said:
“Look he is the best we have ever had in terms of RCB. He is an incredible player. He hasn’t scored the volume of runs he would have liked. Today he looked in really good touch. It is not a technical thing. As I said, he is putting in a lot of work behind the scenes. He looked in really good touch today. He was unfortunate.”
“I thought we were going to see something special. Virat is as frustrated as anyone but we know that the epic one is around the corner. We have got a huge game coming up. So there is no reason why it won’t be in a few days’ time,” he added.
