England cricketer Jos Buttler has expressed that the team will keep on chasing the 500-runs mark in ODIs. They narrowly missed out on the achievement against the Netherlands on Friday, June 17 in Amstelveen.

England put on a record-breaking 498 runs in the first innings in the first ODI match. Three batters – Philip Salt (122), Dawid Malan (125), and Jos Buttler (162*) slammed centuries, with Liam Livingstone contributing a quick-fire fifty to set the total. England lost their opener Jason Roy early in the innings. However, what followed was a remarkable batting performance by the unit.

The visitors broke their own record to register the highest score in ODI internationals by a team. They also surpassed Surrey to become the team to put on the most runs in an innings in List A cricket. Swashbuckling batter Jos Buttler expressed that the team will keep trying to get to the 500-runs mark in ODI cricket. He said to the reporters,

“We’ve come close one time before this and the message in the team is to try to keep pushing boundaries and taking the team forward, take the game on.”

“Is it a matter of time before we make 500? I don’t know. We’ll keep trying to do it. It’s a tough thing to try to achieve. It’ll probably have to happen on a belting wicket at a small ground. “I think the biggest thing, irrelevant of the score, is the mentality we are showing as a team. We keep trying to better that and be better as a team when we play. We know that stands us in good stead.”, Jos Buttler added.

Jos Buttler played in a world of his own- Eoin Morgan on Buttler’s terrific knock against Ireland

During his 162 runs knock, wicket-keeper batter Jos Buttler slammed seven boundaries and fourteen sixes. He became the fourth-highest ODI individual score by an England cricketer. The record lies with Jason Roy, who had slammed 180 runs against Australia in 2018.

England skipper Eoin Morgan lauded his team-mate’s performance adding that it was incredible to watch him bat. Morgan said,

“Jos played in a world of his own like he has been over the last year or two years. It’s incredible to watch and not something we ever get sick of or take for granted. It really is amazing cricket. It’s the reason he probably is the best white-ball cricketer in the world at the moment.”

England eventually won the match by a huge margin of 232 runs as they bowled the Netherlands out for 266. The second ODI between the two teams will take place on Sunday, June 19 in Amstelveen.
