Roston Chase will captain the West Indies as Cricket West Indies (CWI) named a 15-member squad for the upcoming two-Test series against India in October. The team features three changes from their last outing, with Tangerine Chanderpaul and Alick Athanaze returning after missing the Australia series.
Both batters are expected to strengthen the line-up against two-time World Test Championship (WTC) finalists India, having also featured in the 2023 home series against them. Additionally, left-arm wrist-spinner Khary Pierre has received his maiden Test call-up after topping the wicket charts in the West Indies Championship with 41 scalps at an average of 13.56.
Spinner Gudakesh Motie has been rested as part of workload management plans. Head coach Daren Sammy, in an official CWI statement, expressed confidence in the squad’s balance and readiness for the India challenge.
The return of Tagenarine Chanderpaul is to help transform our fortunes at the top of the order, given the recent struggles, with Alick Athanaze being added for his strengths and qualities against spin bowling. Khary is included for the first time as our second spinner in what we expect to be helpful conditions.”
The upcoming series will mark the West Indies’ first Test tour of India since 2018. The team is scheduled to leave the Caribbean on September 22 and arrive in Ahmedabad on September 24. The two-match series will begin on October 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, followed by the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from October 10.
West Indies head into the series after a 0-3 home defeat against Australia and are currently at the bottom of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 points table. Notably, they have not won a Test match in India since the 1994/95 series.
Meanwhile, India, led by Shubman Gill, sit third on the WTC 2025–27 table with two wins and one draw from five matches, including the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. India have also maintained complete dominance over West Indies in Tests, winning nine consecutive series (home and away) since 2002/03.
