West Indies play hosts to Australia one last time in the tour, with the third ODI being played on July 27, Tuesday. The series is currently level at 1-1, following the Windies’ fightback in the second ODI.
After a drubbing in the first, West Indies came back in style. They shot out Australia quickly and chased the target down with some minor hiccups on the way. The pacers and spinners combined to put up a fabulous bowling display. Alzarri Joseph and Akeal Hosein did the damage, picking up three wickets apiece.
Although it wasn’t an easy to pitch to bat on, West Indies romped home with 4 wickets to spare. Skipper Pooran roared back into form with a fifty. He was well supported by all-rounder Jason Holder. Going into the third and final ODI, everything is on the line. While West Indies will be looking to come out as victors in both series, Australia needs something to show for their efforts in the Caribbean.
The Men in Yellow have won just two out of the seven white-ball games on this tour so far. Their batting has been a bitter disappointment, with Mitchell Marsh being the only shining light. While the bowling has looked good in patches, Mitchell Starc’s imperious performances bode well for them.
The star bowler has picked up eight wickets in the first two ODI’s and will spearhead the attack in the third ODI. He has lacked support at the other end, a story that reflects in both batting and bowling. Ben McDermott suffered an injury during the four-wicket loss and his availability hasn’t been confirmed yet. Cricket Australia suggested the possible return of Ashton Agar from a hamstring injury.
It's been a long time since the Windies have beaten Australia in an ODI series. Can the Aussies protect that record in tomorrow morning's #WIvAUS decider?
