With the IPL 2021 done and dusted, the focus now shifts to the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). And everyone by now is aware that a mega auction will take place before IPL 2022 commences.

IPL 2022 will see 10 teams fighting it out for the illustrious trophy. As more details about the two new teams unfurl, the fans are quite curious to know when will the IPL 2022 mega auction take place?

2021 ~

Mid-August – Tender documents for new franchises
Mid-October – Two new franchises will be introduced
December – Mega Auction will be held

2022 ~

Mid-January – Tender documents for media rights sale to be brought out

As per reports, the IPL 2022 mega auctions is likely to take place in December 2021 or January 2022. However, there is still no clarity about the exact date of the auction.

Meanwhile, the existing eight teams will have to finalise the list of retained players before they head to the IPL 2022 auctions. The BCCI is expected to announce the player retention policy for the mega auction soon. It is likely that teams will be allowed to retain only two or three cricketers from their current squads.

Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh interested to buy IPL teams

The race for owning an IPL team is heating up with only a couple of days left to submit the bidding papers. If reports are believed to be true, Bollywood superstar couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh could end up owing a team.

IPL and Bollywood have always had a great connection. Kolkata Knight Riders continue to be co-owned by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla while Preity Zinta has stakes in Punjab Kings.

Both of them is a keen follower of sports and it won’t be a surprise if actually Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh end up owning an IPL team.
