Who Is Jai Moondra? Know Everything About Him

Jai Moondra is an Indian-born international cricketer who plays as a left-arm fast-medium bowler for the Ireland national cricket team. Born on January 10, 1997, in Tonk, Rajasthan, Moondra has quickly become one of the most remarkable stories in modern cricket, successfully transitioning from a corporate engineering career to international sports stardom.

He is only the second Indian-born cricketer to represent Ireland at the international level, following all-rounder Simi Singh.

Academic and Corporate Background

Jai Moondra moved to Dublin, Ireland, in 2021 to pursue a Master’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering at Technological University Dublin. After completing his studies, he balanced his passion for cricket with a full-time corporate career, working as a Product Development Engineer at Intel from October 2022 until June 2025.

Following his historic international breakthrough against India, his professional LinkedIn profile went viral across the globe because it still carried an “Open to Work” status for technology roles in Europe.

Domestic Cricket and International Debut

Moondra played club cricket for Leinster Cricket Club before making his domestic T20 debut for Leinster Lightning in August 2024. His consistent performances across Irish domestic structures eventually earned him his maiden international call-up to the Ireland T20 International (T20I) squad to face India in June 2026.

On June 26, 2026, Moondra made a dream T20I debut in Belfast. With the very first delivery of his international career, he clean-bowled Indian opener Sanju Samson. He finished his debut match with bowling figures of 2 wickets for 25 runs in his 4 overs, guiding Ireland to their first-ever victory against India in any format.

Series Success and Official Statistics

In the second T20I on June 28, 2026, Moondra dismantled the Indian top order by dismissing Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma for consecutive golden ducks off successive deliveries, later removing captain Shreyas Iyer to finish with 3 wickets for 32 runs. His performance secured a 1-run victory for Ireland and earned him both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards.

Across the historic two-match series, which Ireland won 2–0, Moondra achieved the following verified international statistics:

Matches: 2

Wickets: 5

Overs Bowled: 8.0

Runs Conceded: 57

Bowling Average: 11.40

Economy Rate: 7.12

Best Bowling: 3/32 (Second T20I)
