
It was during the semifinal match of the Champions Trophy 2025 against Australia on the day of its inauguration in Dubai on March 3, 2025, that the Indian cricket team paid a fine tribute to the late Padmakar Shivalkar by wearing black armbands. Shivalkar, a great left-arm spinner, passed away at the age of 84 in Mumbai. This gesture marked the great respect that the Indian team held for Shivalkar’s contribution to Indian cricket.
Shivalkar had a long domestic career spanning 124 First-Class matches, wherein he claimed the impressive 589 wickets at a staggering average of 19.69. He was awarded the CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017 for distinguished service to Indian cricket. The tribute paid by the Indian team was a meaningful acknowledgement of Shivalkar’s legacy and a remembrance of his many achievements in the field of cricket.
Padmar Shivalkar passed away from age-related illnesses:

The death of Padmar Shivalkar, a Mumbai cricket legend and former Ranji Trophy winner, on Monday owing to age-related complications was deeply regretted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Shivalkar had a remarkable career that lasted more than 20 years, and his name is inscribed in the annals of the Ranji Trophy. He took an incredible 589 wickets at a phenomenal average of 19.69 in 124 first-class matches.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) deeply mourns the unfortunate demise of Shri Padmakar Shivalkar, who passed away on March 3, 2025. The legendary left-arm spinner was a stalwart of Indian domestic cricket, renowned for his unparalleled skill and dedication to the game,” BCCI said in a statement released on Tuesday.
Because of his exceptional accuracy and ability to produce sharp spin, he was a terror for opposing hitters. His most memorable performance occurred during the Ranji Trophy final in 1972–73, when he led Mumbai to yet another victory by completely dominating Tamil Nadu with figures of 8/16 and 5/18.
